Water Rescue Services

Mission Statement

The Shawnee Heights Fire District Water Rescue Program's mission is to provide water rescue and recovery services to the residents of the fire district.

About the Team

The Water Rescue Team is a specialized unit within the Shawnee Heights Fire District. Members obtain training and certifications beyond regular firefighting operations, and in addition to required department training, team members attend monthly exercises at various locations around Shawnee County. Team members are trained in Ice Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, Urban Flooding, and Underwater Rescue and Recovery. Though prepared for deployment anywhere in Shawnee County, the teams’ main coverage areas are the lakes and waterways of our fire district. Frequently, training is conducted as joint exercises with other departments to expand our mutual aid response between these departments.

Equipment

The Dive Team utilizes a combination of 7ml wet suits and dry suits because of the necessity to dive in cold lake / river environments. We operate with standard dive masks and regulators using nonverbal communications or in full face AGA-mask with wireless communications.
