In Shawnee County, burning permits are required for any outdoor fire that is not contained and covered so that sparks and embers can not escape.

Fire Chiefs carefully weigh the weather forecast before deciding whether to permit controlled burning. Make sure that you have a burning permit and call to see if burning is being allowed before starting your fire!
